Our Physical Therapist in Shelby, NC
TJ Wooton received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Winston-Salem State University in 2021 and is a Licensed Physical Therapist in North Carolina. TJ has experience in hospital outpatient, inpatient, and private practice settings. At Black Widow Physical Therapy and Training, he provides personalized, results-driven care focused on long-term progress, not just short-term relief.
He specializes in helping people reduce chronic pain (even when everything else has felt unsuccessful), recover from athletic injuries without surgery when possible, and stay strong, mobile, and confident as they age.
Why Physical Therapy
TJ's path to PT started with his own knee. As a young basketball player he had surgery, sat out a year, and worked hard to come back. That experience was right for where he was and what he needed at the time.
Years later he hurt the same knee again, this time doing what he loves, which is weightlifting and bodybuilding. Same joint, different situation, different stage of life. This time he worked it back without surgery. That experience was right too.
He knows what it feels like to be the person sitting across from him, not knowing which road to take. He has been on both roads. What he learned is that the decision between surgery and PT isn't about one being better than the other. It's about knowing yourself, understanding your specific situation, and working with people you trust to figure out what's actually right for you at this point in your life. His job is to help you get there.
What He's Learned from the People He Works With
TJ has noticed something in his patients that goes beyond the physical. What people believe about their bodies and what's possible for them matters enormously in how they recover. A fixed belief about what the answer has to be can sometimes close doors before they've had a chance to open. He takes that seriously. Part of his work is helping people see the full picture before they decide.
TJ believes that meaningful recovery happens when treatment goes beyond exercises alone. His approach integrates physical movement, mindset, and stress response. Real life doesn't happen in a vacuum, and neither should your care.
Closer to Home
TJ has also watched this up close with people he loves. Helping his own parents stay active and capable as they age has shown him what's possible when someone commits to their body rather than surrendering to it, and what can be lost when that window closes. That motivates him as much as anything he learned in school.
How He Works
TJ is passionate about providing one-on-one, personalized treatment that meets each person where they are. Every visit, same therapist, full attention, built around your actual goals and life. He is also certified in dry needling, available as a standalone service or as a complement to your PT sessions.
Outside of the clinic, TJ enjoys spending time with his wife and child, staying active, and brewing great coffee.
His goal is simple: to help you feel capable, confident, and supported in your body again.
